Default looking to purchase 00-06 Suburban

Looking to purchase a 00-06 Suburban most likely an 00-03 with slightly higher mileage. 175-200k trying to stay around $4000-$5000

Just would like to know of any issues to beware of. I was looking at the 99's but they seem to be going for more than the 2000's.

I've heard the 5.3 is pretty solid engine.

I was initially looking for a 2 wheel drive, BUT I see a lot of 4x4's. I have been told to stay away from those because of transfer case issues, etc.

any other issues that plague these year suburban's? transmission, electrical? I did a search but it didn't yield what I was exactly looking for.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give some advice.

Welcome to the Forum.

There is lots of information in the forum on these trucks and if you do not find what you are looking for, I am sure that someone will try and point you in the right direction.

If do not need a 4wd, it will save you money in fuel. It will depend on what you require the vehicle to do.

Please find attached a link to a post that we discussed recently about some things to look for in a Suburban.

Good luck with your search.

mulmur1 is quite right about that. IF you don't need a 4x4 then there's no use in buying equipment and subsequent maintenance you won't use.

However, most of the problems with 4x4's is poor maintenance. Often times the ride is purchased with it, just because it's "cool" to have, then forgotten. Then, without Oil changes, the Case goops/shellac's up and it's hard if not impossible to change into 4-Lo. Often times, just an Oil change and patients will correct that problem.

Personally...
I'd try to stay at/just under 150 KMi, and yes, the 5.3 is a good engine, and that engine with 4WD-Lo capability, will climb most Trees.

If the transmission has not already been replaced in the vehicle you are buying, keep that in the back of your mind as the 4l60E's can be notorious... went through 2 on my 97 and my sister just replaced the one in her 01 burb...
mine were at 11k(warranty) and 111k, her's was at 180k miles...
