Default mechanical oil pressure gage

mechanical oil pressure gage for 2007 suburban LTZ 5.3 flex fuel , I am tired of the factory oil sensor sending False pressure and setting off low oil pressure alarm . I want to replace it with a good old fashioned mech. gage and bypass that Stupid alarm ! Anyone done this ? Or do I need to look else where ?

You can find these gauges in lots of places and I would check RA for an aftermarket set up. You will need a correct sender to that gauge because the factory one is likely not going to adapt to a mechanical gauge add on. The kit you buy from RA will likely come with gauge and sender. You are likely not getting the correct readings if you use a junk/no name brand of sender and have not changed the filter/screen. Here is one with both shown: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...433403&jsn=949

If you are getting readings that show low you may have the dreaded oil pump pickup o-ring problem. Need to drop pan and install a new o-ring for this repair. You can see the o-ring in the pick. Do the pickup tube at the same time with the new screen.

Your call. The oil pump replacement does not mean they did the pickup tube and o-ring at the same time. Plus, you did not respond to the question about the quality of sender and the screen.

Plus, if you are bypassing the OE sender, the low pressure warnings may not go away unless they can be programmed out.

agreed...if you didn't change the filter screen or at least pull it out for inspection...the problem could lie there. for most this is a fix and done.

if you run anther sender isolated from the factory wiring...you still have to deal with the message in the dic and dtc set in the pcm.

Recall a friend of mine putting the mechanical oil sender under the dash, back in the late 1960's Chevy Chevelle SS a with a High HP 327 cubic inch motor. One day he was driving and the oil line blew motor oil all over the car. What a mess that was.

gauges are nice but with no warning light... you hear the engine knocking first then look over to the gauge and it could be to late. happened to me with a coolant temp gauge...head gasket blown by the time i looked over.

how could anyone put an oil sender under dash and actually have engine oil going to it ? Oil senders must be installed on the Engine ! Now the gage can be mounted under dash , but the sender will be on engine
