Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

Default more torque

i have an 02 suburban 5.3, it was fine and towed whatever i wanted in the nice flat virginia, but now i just moved to the extreme hills of west virginia and its gettinig its a$$ wipped. its hard to tow a 8x10 utility trailer with a few things on it. on steep hills on the interstate i drop it to third and watch the speed drop then it downshifts from there and screams back up to speed at 4500 rpms. i have a 6.0 longblock already, was thinking a nice cam in a 6 liter might do it but what are you guys getting from the cam swap in a 6 liter? wipple charger is to much money, would buy a new truck first.

If you do a 6.0 swap, you need a new computer, and the harnesses.

I would suggest a custom tune. and a few bolt ons. CAI, exhaust. After that, a Blackbear Tune, will open up your burban a lot.

A gear swap would help teh most though. Even more than swapping a 6.0 in. I would suggest 4.10s.

If your having troubles towing a utility trailer you might have some other issues. I tow a 5500lb travel trailer with no problems up 6% grades downshifted in 3rd without losing any speed. I too have a 5.3. It could also be the gears you are running. I have 3.73 I beleive. if you have 3.41 then that could be your problem. Inside you glove box there should be a bunch of 3 digit codes. RPO codes you can check them online here to see what gears you have. http://www.gm-trucks.com/rpo-code-lookup/

i agree with the gear change. even having a shop set it up is alot cheaper than 6.0 swap. as well as a custom tune and such mentioned above.

The motor has plenty of power, go with the gear change.
