MPG compersion 2007 vs 2009
guys, i know, there was different wheels and tires (btw, overal diameter are same just width and weight are different) but that was nothing i could do about it
6spd tranny is just better way for higher MPG. Cars have almost identical options include 4x4.
Anyway, 2007-2008 got worst tranny ever maid !!!! There is no doubt about it.

well, the reliability of it... look it up, it fails... A LOT.
also, I hate it when things are 'maid'.
GM had the 6 speed in 07 and 08, but they only put it in the caddy...
you suckers were not worthy of a working transmission.
2007 Chevrolet Tahoe Reliability - MSN Autos

(I can say that because I own one and HATE THE F*CK out of it)
Transmission & Driveline A periodic problem on this vehicle is failure of the Automatic Transmission. Failure of the Automatic Transmission applies to the 4L60E/4L65E transmission used in light duty trucks only. doesn't the 2008 have the same 4 speed as the 2007? if so why does that same link show it as having minimal issues?
not saying it is great by any means but I doubt you will find any high volume model like the Tahoe without at least 1 larger issue.
also I hate getting things "maid" also but I love getting "paid"!
my 1999 Acura TL has the same transmission rating as the Tahoe and after 175000 miles it is still kicking. it is all about how you treat and maintain the vehicle and LUCK

take a breath it will be ok I promise!

my tranny fail in 58k.
they was using trany from silverado, which is light truck. That tranny just cant handle that weight and pressure in suburban. Now i got brand new tranny, but kicking from new. I called dealer and they told me, that if there is no check engine light on, there is nothing they can do about it.
Dude, in 2007, install 4spd tranny is one big shame. Don't u think so ???
I know the trend is adding gears but I am not completely sold that it is really that much better, especially the rediculous 8 speeds that Chrysler is putting out. I can only imagine the repair costs on those.
I think a solid 5 or 6 speed is ideal so hopefully GM got it right with the new 6 speed and they can ride it another 20 years like they have with this 4 speed
depends how you look at it - a 4 speed that is built to last would be fine with me. we get 20 mpg highway easy now and around 15 city so basically the same as the new 6 speed. And just like with the 6.2 engine GM will always put Caddy 1st with their new goodies before letting Chevy have some fun with them.

Dude, we gotta go with the flow

3 speed tranny is here for 40 years, 4 spd for 30 and automotive industry came out with 5, 6, 7, 8 spd already. There is nothing wrong with it.
Just compare, Nissan titan - 2004 came up with 5 spd, tundra 2006 - 5 spd, 2007 - up 6 spd
Now, suburban 2007-2008 4 spd and 2009 - up 6 spd
kinda after the battle
