I just bought this 2013 1500 LS 4x4 : she's in superb shape @ 140K miles.
Our first significant snow this morning.
I backed out onto the road in 2wd, and promptly felt a lot of spinning, when taking off(I'm extremely old-mannish in the way I drive it)
Pulled over, put into 4WD H, and took off.
I was surprised at how badly iot slid, esp as compared with my prior(2005) 1500 4x4
The scariest part was doing 35MPH & forgetting exactly where the stop sign was at an intersection I don;t travel much:
I had to hit the brakes sharply, which only sent me sliding... I actually had to try using the snow bank to slow it down, but
it wasn't enough to stop it: I slid onto a major road which thank GOD was empty of vehicles, because it wouldn;t have been pretty for me.(heart thumping away...)

So, not knowing really, what brand of tire I have on it,(they're in great shape tread-wise), is it possible these are just lousy tires in the snow?
Are some tires just that bad as far as snow performance?
I'm 52, been in Maine most of my life, and have never studded a set of tires, and know how to pump brakes to prevent a skid....
Would love your sage thoughts..

Tires make all the difference in the world. I'd rather have a RWD truck with good snow tires than a 4wd truck on highway tires.

You want a tire that's M&S rated with this symbol on the sidewall...

Myself, I have Goodyear Duratracs. On my second set on my Suburban, and have them on two of my Jeeps. When the third Jeep wears out the OEM tires, it's getting Duratracs, too.

i decided to run a fwd drive car this winter instead of a 4x4 pickup. I installed 4 studded snow tires on the car. Well worth the added cost to stud. With the studded tires on the car; I have more control than my 4x4 truck with 4 new all season tires.
