Need some expert information 2007 Suburban ?missing? rough idle
2007 Suburban 1500 LT 5.3L 129,000 miles Rough idle started out occasionally has increased over the past month to the point at a stop light I am afraid it just might stall. Put in some OTC fuel injector cleaner really didn't help much. I could really use some info on what to check and what to change and the order in which to do it. No engine light on at this time so would a code read tell me anything? Not really familiar with the code read stuff. From reading here some suggest plugs and wires, filters, sensors, compression checks, vacuum leaks. I need a bit more detailed information like the names of filters and or sensors etc. Any links to DIY videos would also be very helpful. If and when it goes to a shop I want to be informed so I don't get ripped off. any help would be really appreciated. Please don't just tell me to take it to a shop that is not what I am asking for!
I'd start with the basics - plugs, wires and air filter.
If the plugs haven't been changed, they can cause the problems you're seeing. Is this a used purchase, or have you owned it since new? Do you know the maintenance history? Any smoke coming out the tail pipe? If so, what color?

Our 07 suburban would start running rough and I would find that changing the plugs would fix the problem. If I wouldn't change them right away, the check engine light would come on p0300 random misfire code and the service stabilitrack alert would come on. Change the plugs and it would clear right up. Last year a burnt valve on cylinder 4 was found to be the trouble and we had head work on both banks at 180k miles and we were back on the road.
As the research you found points you in a few directions, get a simple code reader and check for code history for a "soft code". I was successful with changing the plugs and a cylinder leak down, along with isolating cylinder 4 misfire vs random. Hope this helps. Good luck.
