Default New '08 1500 LT Suburban owner?

All -

My wife and I have been searching for a Tahoe/Suburban for months and finally found one we think might work. 65,000 miles on an '08 1500 LT Suburban w/towing and DVD for $25,500. It looks to be in great condition other than needing new tires. Curious if that seems like a good ballpark price in Denver?

Also briefly searched through the first few pages of forum threads, but was hoping someone could give me a few quick bullets about common issues so I can make sure we check those things out prior to buying.

Thanks, all. Looking forward to being an active member of this forum!

Welcome to the forum.

Might check Edmunds, Kelley Blue Book, and NADA for prices in your area. Of course you'll need to know what options the burb has.

Check for any aftermarket accessories, if any, and check their operation. Check the interior door handles for peeling chrome and/or sharp edges. Check power mirror operation and auto-dimming function on driver's side and rear view mirror. If NAV equipped, check voice recognition. Basically check all options and features.

Good luck and others here will probably have some ideas.

the 09 adds a 6 speed auto that is more reliable and smoother.

Also Ford has some great offerings...

A quick check of Denver Craigslist tells me that $25,500 is at the lower end of the price scale for an '08 1500. I hope you're looking at one offered by a dealer--don't know that I'd buy something this complicated from a private party unless they were able to produce every service record back to day one. And even from a dealer, it's worth spending a hundred or so having it checked by a mechanic before signing on the dotted line.

If you've read through this forum, you've seen that the biggest problem reported with the 1500's 5.3 engine seems to be oil consumption. My '07 is a 2500 with the 6.0, and it hasn't used a drop in the last 5,000 miles.

Good luck!

I bought an 08 Sub 1500 LT with the 3LT options pkg. 5.3 w 4sp tranny (which I prefered over the 6sp), Sun/entertainment pkg incl (sunroof, nav, Bose, rearview camera, rear dvd) HD towing, conveneince pk (pwr liftgate, rainsense wipers, heated washer res) 20"s and 2rd row bench vs captain chairs.
So I spared no exp to get exactly what I wanted and searched for some time.
I have 60 K on it now.
Compared this to the Yukon XL and forgein makes, but the Chevy won as it does everthing I want. List was $53065, and got it for a lot less.

Likes: The truck does everthing I want and/or expected of it. Period. I knew what I bought and did not suffer any buyers remorse as the truck goes.

That being said;

Dislikes:
Electrcially, the truck has MG mannerizims. All four door lock actuators replaced, 2 at my exp the others buy GM. Dashlights come on randomly (stabilitrack-ABS Chk Engine) but when analysized by the dealer - nothing wrong.
GM overall is Technologically challenged. Don't buy all the electrical bells and whisles from GM. Go aftermarket or another brand. I like a truck this size for what is - not to be an extension of my living room.

I know Chevy Customer Service monitors this site, but (this comment directed to GM) you need to step up to the plate and support your product. I thank you for posting whenever you see someone having trouble with their vehicle and ask them to contact you. But DO somehting to help. Simple acknowlegement of a problem someone is having does not rectify the issues at hand. Fix it. I may cost GM a little up front, but the good faith GM shows to the customer base you have now will only generate a larger customer base in the future.
Several people have complained about cracked dashboards, door handle cracks, oil burning (none of which I have encounterd) etc. But what has GM done to support their product....stuck their proverbial heads in the sand. Not the way to do business in my opinion especially now in this economic climate.

So Kneeoil, I like the truck overall as I said. And would buy another. Just know GM backing is just like the rest of the auto industry - maybe a bit worse - lacking would be the word I would use - and thats too bad for them.
Hope this helps.

I've had my 08 Suburban for 3 yrs now. So far so good and it is perfect for the family and long trips. It has plenty of power which of course eats at fuel mileage but oh well. I have my rear seats out probably 95% of the time. It has 67,000 miles on it. The only problem I,ve had is a check engine light issue with the emmision/Evap purge valve, which was easily fixed thanks to the helpful people on this site. Never burned any oil. I change my own and use full synthetic, its pretty cheap at Wal Mart. I replaced tires at about 50,000 miles. Got a hell of a deal at Discount Tire Direct and payed a local shop 60$ to install them. Other than that I love the thing. Good luck with yours.....

I love the 4 speed. Especially compared to the 6 speed. If something isn't broke, don't fix it. I just bought a 2004 sub 1500 with 70,000 miles on it for $14,000. Just about fully loaded. I wanted to keep the price down and the cost jumps dramatically with the new body style in 2007. I actually prefer the 2000-2006 style:
