New to me 99 A/C is out
We just bought a '99 suburban 4x4 and I'm working on fixing up the little things that happen over 20 years. Unfortunately, the A/C does not work at all and it is hot in Texas! I put the gauges on it and it seems like the system is empty of refrigerant. The compressor clutch does not engage, and when I jumpered the low pressure switch, it still never engaged, and it made a high pitched squealing noise, bogged the engine down, and started smelling like burning. So it seems like I have a seized compressor to deal with. The wife wants this to be her DD, so what parts do I need to plan on replacing with the compressor? It has rear a/c controls, but I haven't found if this generation had a/c lines and evap in the rear like the newer models or not. I'm thinking I should plan on compressor, condenser, accumulator. Not sure on the evap and the low/high side valves.
Any inputs or similar experience on this is appreciated. The guy we bought it from said the a/c was never quite right after he had the engine replaced.
Thanks,
-Chris

99 new body style or 99 old body style...completely different builds?
remove the ac belt and confirm the motor is seized...it should turn by hand and you should feel a little compression. check the ac tensioner...they tend to seize
if the compressor is seized the concern is metal particles going thru the system.
in the least replace the compressor, belt, orfice tube screen , receiver drier

Well I took the belt off and the compressor/clutch does not budge when trying to spin it by hand. I pushed in on the low pressure valve and nothing came out. So I guess I am shopping for all parts needed in the above posts.

Well I finally started ordering parts for this. From my reading, it seems like the Sanden 4440 is a better design over the belly leaking Delphi H6 that is currently in the vehicle. I am seeing different things on if the Sanden is a direct replacement that bolts right on and uses the same serpentine belt. I read in one forum that it required a longer serpentine belt?
Any knowledge on how direct of a swap it is will help in my decision to go with the 4440 over the H6.
Thanks,
-Chris

I'd contact Tim at Arizona Mobile Air trb@ackits.com 602-233-0090 and ask him. He may need engine size, 1500 or 2500, VIN, possibly more .... it is GM, after all.
