New Member looking to buy a burb question
Oh yeah, I am always open to options... Just seems that the dealer that has these two suburbans I am looking at is the cheapest around. I just hope it's not a "get what you paid for" deal.
hummm.... Yeah I would always assume its a get what you pay for deal....
I don't want to be the nay sayer, lets go with devils advocate....
Check under the vehicles for leaks and or stains, esp around the rear seal
make sure the AC does work and is not noisy, take a pocket thermometer..
check every accessory for functionality, if it has the DVD make sure it works and if it comes with headphones and remote that they do indeed work with the unit..
press every button and click every switch, when you test drive make sure the cruise control works, that the wipers wipe both front and back and the fluid pumps out....
Remember someone traded this thing in for a reason, hopefully it was for something newer and not because they were tired of the problems....

Very true... But you can run into those issues on any lot in the country too. I just try to go in with an open mind and try not to get caught up in the hype of it all.
I agree wholly, and it wasn't my intent to bash but only point out that buying used requires a lot more diligent on the buyers part then when buying new, and hopefully some ideas for anyone reading this tread that is considering buying a used vehicle....
My only suggestion would be to get the Carfax (or other vehicle history report) on the vehicle. They do not always tell you everything, but they do give a good idea about the history of the vehicle. Also, see if the dealer can't "certify it used". Sometimes that will give you a little extra leverage when something happens as soon as you are off the lot.
The one thing I find about Chevy's and specifically Tahoe's/Suburban's is that they are pretty reliable vehicles (even with that kind of milage). I have a family member with an '01 Tahoe with just over 100,000 miles and it is still running great. Besides replacing brakes and tires, they have had zero problems with the vehicle.
I suppose it's all the luck of the draw, but you can find some GREAT used vehicles with a lot of milage on them! It is simply a matter of doing your homework, and investigating a little about each vehicle that you are considering buying.

Carfax's are okay BUT they do not tell the whole story, A friend of mine bought a 350Z, and it had a clean carfax, he did not do all of the homework of checking out the car, thou he got a great deal on it, after getting it home and getting into it, turns out it had in fact been wrecked. The paint over spray, bent and repaired frame, missing fasteners, misalgined headlight... Most likely the PO had a buddy or a shop do the repairs without an insurance claim so no carfax data or at least a clean one from that prospective...
That extra $4000 can go a long way to make your truck more you. New rims and rubber. Or about anything that can go wrong. Im happy with my 04 burban and is isnt a Z71. 5.3 gets a average 17.5 mpg. I just did my first tune up so that might change for the better
