New shocks on 1999 Suburban
Hi all,
I have a 99 Suburban LS 5.7 2wd. I am the 3rd owner. It is due for front shocks and I'm having a difficult time with this.
For some reason, all of the new shocks I have seen and/or tried to install, are not long enough. They are all too short by almost an inch. This Suburban is not lifted or customized at all, so I don't know why there is a discrepancy.
I could probably get them to fit if I cut the rubber bushings in half, but I don't want to do that!
Has anyone else had this problem before? What did you do? Thanks so much for your help.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the parts that you have tried are not matched to your vehicle. I assume that you have compared the length of the new shock to the shocks on the truck. The rubber boot at the top will compress, as part of the installation, but you should never have to cut it. You should go to your local auto parts store and discuss with the parts counter person. Napa, O'Reilly etc. They should be able to provide you with something that will work properly. If you can, bring one of the existing shocks with you to confirm that it will work.
