New to suburbans, have questions
Just bought a 2004 burb with 200,000 miles on it. 5.3 auto, 1/2 ton, 4x4. I am new to suburbans and had some questions. When I got it the 4x4 button showed that it was in 4hi when it obviously was not. Also none of the 4x4 buttons would respond to any push. Also the service 4x4 light was on. I did a google search and read that the button assemblies go bad commonly so I have one ordered. The next day I drove it and the 2hi light was on. So then I pushed 4 lo and it engaged just fine and so did 4 hi and then back to 2 hi. So I am hoping the button will be an easy fix. Secondly the front blower switch only works on high. Would this just be replacing the switch or should I go thru all the fuses? There may be more issues with it but that is all I have found so far. It rides and drives like a new one. I do appreciate the help. Thank you.
The 4wd switch can be a little wonky; the switch on my '01 misbehaves occasionally. If it's not the switch, it's probably the actuator, and that's a pretty easy fix, too.
The problem with your blower is the blower motor resistor. When set to high, current is going directly to the motor. On all other settings, the current is going through the resistor. It's a pc board that you access from the passenger side footwell. Google it - it's a known issue. Your dealer surely has one in stock. IIRC, it's about $40-$50.
FYI - get yourself a nice set of metric sockets, both regular and deep. The Suburbans have a lot of 7, 10 and 14 mm bolts.

Awesome info. I have lots of metric tools. Thanks so much for the info, I appreciate it.
