The five years starts when the truck is first put into service, ie the first owner drives it off the lot.
Most of the '07 problems occurred on the early build units (prior to March 2006). Mine is a late March 06 and has had very few problems, none of which left me on the side of the road. The build date is on the driver door sticker.
