Default Oil Filter 2007 Tahoe

I just did the oil change on my 2007 Tahoe and noticed that the only Filter available is the Short PF-48 filter.

I want to use the taller style filter but cant find a match, from what I can tell the metal ring in the filter is coded Z3 which should indicate the correct mounting thread.

Does anyone know of the part number for a TALL filter?

you can try a PF61 but from what I understand sometime around 07 GM changed to metric threads.

From the trend of the last ten years, it appears that GM is trying to eliminate the oil filter as they keep getting smaller.

Default Thanks

Thanks guys, I don't want to have to experiment too much by buying different filters I thought if someone knew first hand that would be great.

On my Sillouhette and astro it was straight forward a Fram 3980 was the tall version of the PF-52.

So are your sure on the PF-61 or is it a guess?

Thanks for your help.

Default filters

I agree; looking at that tiny thing you think, this can't be enough for this engine... but it's what they did so...

just be careful about putting something w/the wrong threads on there.

you could take a new/clean filter to a hardware store and find the matching bolt... then, spend $0.10 on that bolt... take it to the auto store and find a filter that fits it perfectly...

then your not risking f*ckn' up your engine oil filter threads....

It seems like on my 97 Tahoe with the 5.7 the 4x4 used a different filter then the 2x drive. Do the 07 4x4 use a diff filter? if so then that would be the alternative...

Not according to the look-up tables at the parts stores. Back in the day the old 350s used a smaller filter in the cars than the pickups.

Gunnywaldo: Be careful if you do find a bigger filter as there may be other differences such as bypass, etc. Not saying that there would be but could be differences.

why do you want to use the taller one? They designed it to work with the smaller filters so I am sure it is more than enough. It is funny that it is basically the exact same filter that I use on my '99 Acura TL...I use the Mobil 1 filters and synthetic oil (if anyone cares)
