Default Oil pressure fluctuation

I have a 2005 suburban and While driving my oil pressure guage will go to 0 and I get the warning dings and low oil Pressure read out on dash then guage will peg out at 80 for a bit drop to 0 peg back to 80 and will usually stay at 80 even at idle won't move. I am pretty sure oil pressure and pump are fine no problems with engine and oil level is good. Think it's probably the oil pressure sending unit or the guage in the ICU. Any ideas

Default Op erratic

You may very well have a defective stepper motor in your dash cluster (it drives the needle). This is a common failure. I suggest the vehicle be scanned to see what the OP really is. I suspect it's ok. If it is the dash cluster stepper motor, you ca get a rebuilt dash to cure the problem

Oil Pressure sending unit. Exactly what happened to mine. Drove me insane and caused me lots of worry.

When pressure sending units go out they typically peg it at 80 then they start to bounce around then fall etc... the final death of them is either pegged or they drop and the chime will drive you crazy.

When the stepper motor goes out it will typically read real pressure then begin to bounce around. etc.

YMMV

Thanks for all the advice and ideas. Problem was the oil pressure sensor. Finally had a break in the weather to be able to change it And all is working OK now. Once again thanks.
