Question oil pressure guage gradually falls to zero

Hello everybody!
Please forgive me if this has been posted before.

I have a 2003 chevy suburban (a great vehicle BTW) but before the new year I noticed that my oil pressure gauge was showing that the pressure was dropping to Zero. ( I was generally driving 150-200 miles trips when this would happened)
So late December I sent my vehicle into the shop and got them to check it out and replace what needed to be replaced.
I was told that the oil pump was working fine and that the problem was the oil sending unit so they replaced it.
Fast forward a month and on my second 150-200 mile trip of the new year the oil pressure gauge does the same thing and drops to zero as I'm about twenty minutes away from home.
Has this happened to anyone before? and what could be the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lawrence

What motor do you have, how many miles are on it and what oil do you use?

I have a 5.3L 285 hp V8
It has 123000 miles
I use a 5w/30 Quaker state (it gets to -30 degrees celsius regularly here in the winter)

I assume that it's not consuming oil and that a low oil level is not the cause.
If the oil level is not the issue I still think it may be an issue with the sending unit or the gage. I recently added a mechanical oil pressure gage to mine so I know for sure.

Yeah oil consumption is not a problem but I am over due for a oil change.
I should mention I did have the cluster repaired.
