Default OK then ... which Magnaflow muffler?

Ok, I am convinced that I absolutely do not want the Flowmaster. I got on Magnaflow's website and they have several different mufflers. I am going to have a dual exhaust, however not a tru dual. So I need one with a single inlet and dual outlet. What type do you other guys have, and/or which one would you recommend?

Personally I would buy the GM approved Magnaflow catback system for the 07 Tahoe for $550.00 and do it up right..

Dig Dug,

First off, I would personally never buy the full kit for 550. I have had many magnaflow mufflers and if you go to a GOOD muffler shop you will be fine. One of my local shops has a guy that can basically make mandrel bends, so no point in buying manderl bent pipe. You should be able to buy the muffler from performancepeddler and even a couple magnaflow tips from them as well and get the two tailpipes from your muffler shop for around 300! The sound and performance will be the same as the 550 setup. However, if money isnt an issue just buy the $680 kit from magnaflow. But I am not willing to pay that kind of money for something I can get the same performance out of for less than half the price.

Now, for the muffler. I would call them if I were you. Ask them what the muffler is that is included in THEIR catback system that they sell. You should consider that muffler!

I personally could care less if I had the polished version. I am unsure what the stock exhaust is on the truck. HOwever, I believe it is 3 inch. So I would buy a 3 inch in, and dual 2 1/2 out. I was a member of a few dodge forums and read many posts about how you can actually lose power by creating less back pressure than the truck has with the stock exhaust. Hard to believe, however there were some real tech heads there that dynoed them. It was crazy the things they did, however they dyno results showed this. This was on the hemi, so it is possible it is different on the tahoe. But I wouldnt go 3 inch in, and 3 inch dual out.

IF the IN pipe needs to be 3 inches (if 3 is the factory pipe size) I would buy this muffler, 12288. It is a 3" in, dual 2.5 out. The size is 5x8 oval, and is 18 inches long. The smaller the mag muffler the louder it will be. If you are concerned with it being to loud get the larger 5x11, magnaflow number 15288. That muffler is based on the same speculation of 3 inch in.

Again, if I were doing it I would call magnaflow and see what the MUFFLER model number is in their kit for the 07 tahoe. Theirs will be polished however find the same specs in the satin unpolished version unless you want to pay more for the polished. Once you call them please let me know which muffler they say they use in their kit so I know. That would be the muffler I would use. They test and dyno everything so they should know. Good luck and keep us updated.

Digdug,

I think with either system it will be louder than stock, but flowmaster may be a louder. Again if you want to mellow out the sound tell them to put the resonator back on. I don't think that it will perform the same but it won't be that loud. See if magnaflow has a tip that resonates the sound, I believe they sell one. You can see inside the tip that it has a inner lining, I think that is what resonates the sound. Call magnaflow and see if they have them. This would eliminate the stock resonator, yeah get the resonator type tip.

Have you considered the Chevy cat-back system? They have both a touring and performance system. I plan to get the performance version. A poster that heard it in person said it sounded very good at idle and not booming at cruise.

So Digdug what is the verdict? Or did you get a system installed? Let us know, curious to see which one you went with.

Well .... I got talked into the Flowmaster 40 series. They had another truck there with the same motor and it didn't sound too bad. It's a little loud and my buddy felt bad that he talked me into it. He said if I'm really not happy with it in the next few days he'll swap it out for a Magnaflow or Flowmaster 70 series free of charge. He had this one there, still in the box from somebody who oredered it then never picked it up. We'll see. It's kind of fiun ot have right now but it gets too old by the end of the weekend I'll probably swap it out. He said it was bitch to lay out but he did a fantastic job. It really looks great.

I think it's important to note to some that although I've been hanging out here I do not have a Tahoe but an '07 Avalanche. I cannot find any good sites where I can disucuss it and since the '07 Tahoe is pretty much the exact same, I find it's easier to hang out here ....

Anyway, I also had the Fabtech spacer kit installed which looks great.

I'll take some pics.

Darkone ... thanks for the interest, I truly appreciate it.

digdug,

Did you have them leave the factory resonator on? If not, that is going to be one loud **** muffler. But, to each and their own! Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.

Yeah, the flowmaster 40 is what I had on my truck. It was loud enough that my neighbors could hear me leaving the house down the road. I also remember my friends could hear me coming from down the road. Well good luck with the new system. I don't see how it was hard to make the bends for your truck, it took probably 20 min to bend and install my system. Unless you had duals put in, the hard part is getting it around the spare tire.

You are ok with being in this site to me. They are about the same, difference is the body.

digdug,

I am glad you are in the tahoe section!

If you dont have children or a wife, or frequent passengers the 40 series will be fine for your own ears. It is when you have passengers that it became a pain in the rear for me. You couldnt hear each other once the radio was blarring to be heard over the exhaust! But it may be perfect for you.
