Default Part take-off

I am interested in taking off the bottom black part of the bumper (picture is attached). I think the car will look better this way. Anyone know how to go about doing this? Is it something I will be able to do myself?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

While you can remove it yourself as the Owner's Manual recommends doing for off-roading, you'll probably experience a drop in hwy mpg as its purpose is primarily aerodynamic.

I did it in 5 minutes off my Suburban. 2 bolts and a couple clips. No discernable difference in mileage or heat increase at all.
Looks way better off IMO.

Default plastic

I took the same one off my '95 tahoe.

My new one hits curbs it's so low on the '09.

It may be there for purely legal reasons.

I read a while back the Honda CR-V uses one to enable it to be in a different "class" of vehicle because of the changed 'clearance'... it was too high so they lowered it via a plastic strip, and it changes all sorts of regulations regarding the class / crash ratings / etc.

I'd love to know more details, but it's the same reason most cars have back seats that are too small for any human... cheaper insurance.

I'm sticking w/ aerodynamic. Look at NASCAR cars. They're barely off the track surface. The more air you can keep from going under the vehicle, the better.

I would like to see a picture without it. I think it will look funny like something is missing
