The passenger seatbelt on our 2012 Equinox would not retract. I didn't want to mess with it in any way as it has a side airbag, electronics, etc. So the dealer replaced the entire mechinism. FOR 670 dollars. Out of pocket. It seems to me that this should be safty equipment that should be covered by up to 10 years.Am I right?

Friend suggested I look at NTSB data, but it is an awful site.

Any suggestions as to how I should persue getting a refund? If possible?

Just because it's safety equipment doesn't mean it should have any extra-warranty coverage. Stuff breaks, and you said yourself you didn't want to mess with it. Well, then you have to pay up.
