Default Passenger side seat position sensor replacement

I had a diagnostic code for the SIR system BO 083 that is suppose to be for the passenger side seat position sensor. The sensor as indicated by instructions is suppose to be riveted to the right side track that the seat travels back and forth in. In removing the seat and searching for the sensor I was not able to locate the sensor or the two wire connector that would lead me to it. I used a GM service manual for the year 2007 which may be why I am not able to locate it. I have the new part which is quite small with a connector providing for a two wire hook up. I would like to know if this site can provide for the proper location of the sensor under the seat and a picture to help. My Suburban is a 2008 LT 4wd with both front and rear heated seats. Your help is appreciated.

Default DTC BO 083 question.

Since I am not able to locate the Seat Position Sensor on the front passenger side seat, I am curious if the code Bo 083 can also apply to the front right impact sensor located behind the front facia. The only place I have not looked for the SPS is under a plastic harness enclosure on the passenger seat underside. I only have access at the local library to a service manual for a 2007 Suburban and thought engineering changes may have incorporated the sensor into the module for the SIR under the seat. Anyone have an answer for my concern?

Ah I stand corrected...

The frontal Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System consists of the following components:

• AIR BAG indicator located on the instrument panel cluster (IPC)

• Driver and passenger knee bolsters

• Inflatable restraint front end sensors (left/right)

• Inflatable restraint PASSENGER AIR BAG ON/OFF indicator

• Inflatable restraint Passenger Presence System (PPS)

• Inflatable restraint passenger seat belt tension sensor

Inflatable restraint seat position sensor (SPS) (left)

• Inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM)

• Inflatable restraint steering wheel module

• Inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil

• Inflatable restraint wiring harnesses

• Seat belt pretensioners (left/right)

• Steering wheel and column

It appears to be on the drivers seat only , not the passenger, see attached

Default DTC BO 083 question.

Thanks for the research in2Pro, while checking the 2007 service manual ( although I have a 2008 ) the DTC BO 083 shows as for the Passenger side seat and a location too. Can only surmise that GM made an engineering change and possibly to cut out cost. Unfortunately, I don't have a 2008 Service manual available to me. So, I appreciate your follow up. The service manual I looked through showed DTC BO081 for the driver side seat. Just have to wonder if the code DTC BO 083 applies to a different sensor in the SIR system. I got the code from an OnStar representative after they did a diagnostic check for me when the SIR system warning light came on.

I really appreciate this image of the driver side seat. It clearly shows the seat position sensor and looks exactly like the one I bought through the GM Employee Parts Warehouse. Even better, it indicates that it is held in place by screws and not riveted in. Sure wish our local library had a 2008 Service Manual for my Suburban. Removing the old one and replacing it shouldn't take but an hour our two. Only thing I need to know is, do I need a Diagnostic Scanner to clear out the code to make the light go out? Or, will it go out after detecting no problem in the SIR system?

Default 2008 Suburban 4wd LT with BO 083 Diagnostic Trouble Code

The DTC BO 083 shows as the seat position sensor in the 2007 service manual for Suburbans. After not being able to find the sensor on the bottom of the passenger seat of my Suburban. And, having my concerns answered as to where it is ( Front driver side seat ) I have to ask if the code above is for a different sensor. I had a friend with a ALDL scanner do a diagnostic and his scanner indicated that the sensor that is bad in the SIR system is the one located on the right side front bumper behind the facia.

Can anyone on this forum verify such finding? Thanks.

Default DTC BO 083 question.

Thanks for the update. It should save me some time and allow me to replace the correct sensor. Glad I won't have to remove the driver side seat to R&R the seat position sensor. But, not looking forward to laying on the ground in sub zero weather to swap out the sensor on the bumper right side. Still, it shouldn't take to long.
