Default Poor Highway Fuel Mileage?

So this weekend i decided to drive home to visit the family in my 97 Tahoe 4x4, but i only averaged around 16mpg....what could it be? the trip was was mainly all highway. I averaged about 75mph. oh and i filled up with 88 rated fuel on the way there and 87 on the way home and noticed no difference?
any ideas are welcome.

What size motor do you have? It could be as easy as a dirty air filter.

Default well

autos.msn.com should tell you your EPA MPG

My 1995 only ever was rated 12/14 i think... 17 really isn't that bad!

Is this a recent development? Have you generally had better mpg, or does it just seem low to you? Depending on the gears you have at 75 mph you may have done pretty well.

16 sounds good to me.....I just went up to Vermont over the weekend & averaged 16 myself...For a 4800 lb vehicle in higher elevations, I'll take it!!!

i've got the 5.7 liter (350ci)
its not a dirty air filter installed a new one when i got the rig at the end of august.
I bought the Tahoe from my uncle and he told me he would average like low 20's on the highway.
I have the Tahoe sport LT (2 door) 4x4

I have a 97 and a 95 2 door, I think you could get close to 20mpg highway if you were doing about 60 - 65 mph.
