Default Power Steering/Creaking/Grinding wheel

Hi! I need a GM expert here...my mechanic albeit good is scratching his head on this one? 2007 Suburban with 46K miles-bought 3 months ago. Seemed fine but now it makes a grinding creaking sound when turning steering wheel and has been impossible to turn at times then seems fine??? Took to mechanic he tried power steering pump..still no repair.
Changed rack and pinions and for the past 2 weeks drove like NEW..now this morning (cold weather makes it worse btw?) it locked up had to
give it all this 101 lbs lady could to turn it. So I drove a few sharp turns left and right and drove straight down hwy for 3 miles then it was fine??!! Help me.......Would this not be covered in 100,000 powertrain? Scared to take to dealership service dept$$$ Already spent 700 on rack n pinion
PS When it locked up this am it felt like the steering wheel (although I was going straight) was turned. Almost like if I let go it would do 100 spins left to unwind itself??

Welcome to the forum.

With the rack disconnected, he needs to check how hard it is to turn the wheels by themselves. It could be a frozen CV joint or ball joint. I suspect your old rack was OK.

Okay 73 Shark...however it
has done this recently when it
wasn't too cold out so would that
debunk my myth that is has to do w/cold
and with the new rack it didnt do the creaking
or anything but only for 2 weeks...? Yes
I'm with you that old rack had to be okay too new

Sounds like your mechanic was just throwing parts at it w/o determining what the real problem is.
