Default Power Window no workie.......need advice please ----what next?

Hi, I have a 2004 Z71 Tahoe and for a while now, my drivers door window (all the others are fine) would work most of the time, but once in a while it would just stop working. Now its doa.....thank God its stuck up!!! Anyhow, I pulled off the door panel and took apart the switch and cleaned the contacts, and it didnt help. The plugs are nice and tight, no water or ever got into the switch. All 3 other windows work just fine from their own switch OR the drivers master. I unplugged the motor and checked for power on both leads (up and down) when I work the drivers window switch and nothing. The other doors have power at the motor (obviously) when the respective button is pushed up or down. This leads me to believe that its the switch, but I dont want to plop down 120 bucks on a used switch on EBAY before I know for sure. I dont have a scematiic for the switch or wiring.

What I DID do was supply 12v power directly (25amp fuse) into the power window motor plugs (seperately) and the window did not go up or down.....which makes me scratch my head as to the motor having a problem....but what are the chances that both the mtor AND the switch went bad at the same time? Not likely. So, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next? Which colored wires on the switch is for the drivers door window up and down so I can check the switch for output power to the motor? Is there seperate fuses for each individual window? I checked under the dash and under the hood and couldnt find seperate fuses for the individual doors, just one relay under the hood.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Steven

Buy a Haynes manual. I would check for a ground problem to the motor and switch, if your are sure the switch and the motor are no go. Redo the tests, I had a similar problem on electrical and finally discovered I wasn't on a good ground with my meter leads.

It is possible both went dead at the same time, motor going bad could have killed the switch, etc.

better yet get a factory manual on DVD -> Chevrolet Tahoe Service Repair Shop Manual 2004 2005 | eBay

give this a read and see if it helps any....

The service DVD's get taken down pretty quickly as I suspect they aRrrr.. produced by a man with a peg leg if you know what I mean... but check back often as the one I have I am very pleased with....

My 04' did the same thing. It ended up being my switch was toast. There were some going on auction for $30 on ebay lately. Good luck.
