Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

Default Pull on it once, twice, or three times? Engine removal

99 Suburban K1500. (Okay its a GMC but I think you Chevy guys will forgive).

Bought as a project. Body is super clean and interior is good except the typical GMC leather is cracked.

Problems

1: T-case growls like my German Shepherd around the mailman.
2: Engine is leaking from every possible location.
3. Transmission feels strong but has 195K miles on it. Minor leak at the output shaft seal.

Solution:

Replace engine (Goodwrench T31 long block), T-case (not sure which one yet) and go through transmission.

Question:

When I did my vette it saved a whole lot of contortions to pull engine and transmission as a single unit. I do not see anything on the Suburban that prevents me from doing that except maybe the big flat front end ...can it be done? Should it be done?

For those that have done it...is it worth it to pull everything together or separate and remove?. Same goes for the for install?

TIA

I'd pull the motor by itself.
That trans and T case are big and heavy and long and not worth doing the TV show drama pull unless you have a forklift and helpers to get it high enough to clear everything.

I was worried about height.

I have a 4 post lift and hoist in my shop but no forklift. As far as helpers...wife hates it when I ask her to put gloves on and come out to the shop.

I'll do it the old fashioned way and pull separately.

Thanks for advice.
