At first happy new year and all the best to you! And now, as the knowledge about suburban and their history is very poor in austria, few questions to you. The VIN of my ´79 suburban tell me that it is series 2, 3/4ton. And the question is, does the 3/4ton always have 8 lug wheels? Because my car have 6 lug wheels! The second question is about my ´76 suburban which i purchased a few weeks ago. It is an old fire rescue car with double rear doors which are very rusty. Are they available as spare? I found lot of parts but no doors... Thanks in advance for your help!! I am sorry about my english which is not so good but i hope it is clear.

Not sure about the 8-lugs but a salvage yard is probably your best bet for the doors. And don't worry about your English. Didn't have a problem. Good luck.

 

ok during that timeframe, the general rule of thumb I was raised with was that 1969 1/2 ton trucks had 6 lug wheels, then in the early 70's they went to 5 lug for the 1/2 tons and 6 for 3/4 and 8 lug for 1 tons. nowadays my 1/2 ton suburban has 6lug wheels.

judging from the pic, I'm guessing those are 1ton axles. they look the part anyhow.

as for the barn doors, well I wouldn't think them too difficult to find here... but there is another monster. I can't imagine many old burbans laying around your parts. You'll prolly have the best luck going aftermarket.
