Default Quick TPMS question

I recently picked up an 04 burb for the wife. Since we picked it up the tpms light has been on. I checked the tire pressures and some were low
and I adjusted them accordingly. The light still didn't go away. Then I noticed one of the tires had a regular rubber valve stem instead of the metal one like the tpms sensors. I ordered a sensor and had a shop install it, I did the tpms system reset in the truck I found on the Internet but after a few miles the tpms error light comes back on. My question is is this something the dealer has to reset or reprogram or turn on the sensor somehow? I was under the
impression you just install it and let the system detect the sensor and all is good?

I think the dealer has to reset the MIL.

Thanks... I'll just add that to the list of things for them to do while it's there.

I've got a 2008 2500 HD. Just upped the tires from factory 235's to 285's. Started getting "check RR tire pressure" message, but at irregular times. Pressure is fine, but my regular shop guy sez that different, non-factory tires can cause this. Anyone know if this is true?

It is quite possible that this may be the case. What you will want to do is to speak with a dealership and make sure that there isn't something else that is causing this problem. Thank you for your time.

your vehicle rides on an 'amount' of air, by increasing your tire size you have more room to work with, and can use a lower pressure. this would make the vehicle think you have low tire pressure. the dealer may or may not be able to fix this. if the 285s were a factory size they should be able to.

In jeep world we get this a lot since we go from 30" tires to 35, 37, 38s. etc...

My stock PSI in my 31s on my wrangler was around 35 i think.... I run 28 psi in my 35s... if I ran 35 i'd bounce off the road!

Also if your diameter changed because you kept the same profile, then you should have your dealer reprogram your tire diameter so your speedo is correct and I think it might also affect the ABS.

GM will not support or help any dealer with tire size reprograming. Unless the tire size is a size that GM offers and they ask if the tires are OE (make/size) or if they are GM accesories tires.

Then he'll have to get something like a Superchips to reprogram it.

go to a local tire shop that deals with tpms sensors and have them use their handheld tool to reset tool if u have the owners manual it will tell you exactly how to do it...i remember doing one at my job...its kinda tedious but i think u had to turn the lights on and off three times while key is on the ON position and the horn should chirp twice or three times! start it up and the light will blink and shut off make sure all psi is between 32-35 i prefer 35 i could be wrong sometimes its other directions just gotta look into ur manual!
