Default RADIO IS DEAD!!!!!!!! WHY????

Got up this morning started the truck and started driving......then I noticed that the radio was not on. I thought I turned it off, tried to turn it on and NOTHING!! I am starting to think that too many electronics and not enough research for the best product. Aftermarket radio might be the way to go. ANYONE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM?

I've had this happen once. Couldn't get it to come back on then after letting it sit for a few hours, turned the car on and the radio worked again. I remember ZX posting something about this having to do with one of the systems going into sleep mode and not waking up correctly. He stated that they are working on a fix for this and that he'd let the forum know when it was done.

Here is the post I was referring to:

Thanks,

Yeah it came back on. Wondering if it is another reprogramming code or something. I don't want to hate this truck, but anymore of this and I might just have to do or buy something else.

Just curious. Is your Tahoe equipped with the Bose option?

We have seen a couple of units do this very same thing but it has not become a reoccurring issue.
Normally it will happen once and then work normally from there on out.

So was I wrong in saying that GM is working on a fix for this?

Had it happen to me just today. A liittle different chain of events though.

I was waitning for a sub-contractor to show up to the work site about 10:30 am this morning XM dissappeared alltogether from my screen while idling . When I pushed an XM channell from mypre set favorites a message appeared that said XM not available due to communication issue. Looked up the message in the owner's manual & saw nothiing that referenced this. Figured it must be due to the inclimate weather todday. Windy, freezing cold, light snow. I was in a wide open area with nothing that could possibly block the signal other than clouds. ( I am currently working in Kansas so not trees or mountains or even a hill to interfere)

When I turned off my tahoe & opened my car door my radio stayed on (FM of course). I had to manually turn off my radio.

This kinda freaked me out so I immediatley climbed back in started it & was unable to get the radio / nav to come on at all.

I was going to take it in to dealer on my lunch break, but when I got in my vehicle @ 12:00 everything was back to normal.

I'll keep an eye on it & let you guys know if it does this again.

Anybody else have their XM vanish alltogether for any period of time?????

Yes, there is a fix in the works.
And dogpack3, the symptoms that you describe are very typical, if you have a Bowtie radio there is an update that may fix your XM communication problem check with your dealer.
The radio staying on after the door is opened is something that is believed to also be caused by a data communication error, the electronic system is a complicated computer network in these trucks and (like a regular computer network) sometimes the system will experience a glitch and act up for what appears to be no apparent reason, these are the toughest problems to sort out.

XM disappeared but everything else worked. I shut it off at restaurant and after the meal it was normal again. Never happened again.
