Default Radio Issues from a Newb

Hello to all. I just recently purchased a 2002 Tahoe LT that has an aftermaket CD player installed. Also, this vehicle is equipped with Onstar, although it is not activated nor do we plan to use it. My question concerns why the radio will work sometimes and sometimes it will not. We never know what to except with the unit. I took it out this weekend just to see if there was a connection issue between the radio harness and the vehicle harness, but I was unable to find anything wrong. If the radio is not working when we start the vehicle, it will not magically come on. The unit powers on and goes through the motions, however there is no sound coming from the speakers. In addition, if the radio does come on with sound coming from the speakers, it will not cut on/off intermittently. Any ideas? Is the Onstar interfering in any way? Is this just because someone removed the factory unit and replaced it with an aftermarket one? Is there anything that I can do about this at all? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Default Radio

sounds like the amp either inside the headunit or the vehicle...

I dont know enough about the 02 tahoe to know if it has a factory amp

you can find what fits easy, just google 'crutchfield' and find one you like

then get it off ebay for 1/2 the price (car audio has a 50% markup)

but then again crutchfield has great support... so you get what you pay for...

(i don't work for them, but there web site is easy to use)

It does have a factory amp located behind the glove box as well as a factory subwoofer. The subwoofer does not work and I assume that the amp is meant to drive just that subwoofer, although I don't know for sure. It's just frustrating to get in your vehicle and the radio does not work half the time. I replaced the old aftermarket head with a new one from my other vehicle and I still have the same problem.
