Default Radios for 2002 Tahoe

I have a 2002 Tahoe LT with only 99K on the clock. I plan on driving this for the next 100K.

It has an Alpine stereo in the dash that I absolutely hate - the buttons are impossible to read, the face has to tilted down to load a CD and the controls are not instinctive at all. I would like to go back to stock to take advantage of the original factory options. This Tahoe does NOT have the Bose sound system but did have controls for the radio in the rear of the center console for the second row to use and it has a cassette player (yeah I know) mounted in the console below the radio. The cassette setup seems strange as most of the original systems seemed to have the cassette built into the head unit and the CD player mounted separately or the they had both the cassette and the CD in the head unit. The cassette and the rear controls were not hooked up when the Alpine unit was installed.

Can anyone direct me to a supplier that has NOS, refurbished or good used OEM head units that would work in a Tahoe of this vintage? I've checked Ebay and the GM units offered don't come with a CD option (non-Bose units) that fits the 2002 Tahoe. Lots of units that look like they would/should work for newer models but when checking the compatibility they say they won't work on a 2002.

factory units are crazy expensive. Check your build sheet to find the radio build code and the stero build option. Once you know the build; its easier to find whats compatible.

they do make wiring kits to make the steering controls functional with an aftermarket stero .

Refurbed and NOS in that date range are less than $100.

I have a 2002 Suburban with the same system that you want. My factory head unit has a CD player in it, with the remote-mounted cassette unit in the lower dash. It also has the rear controls at the back of the console.

My cd player has stopped working so I am getting another radio.

On Tahoes and Suburbans, this setup is the "UP0" option. This option number should be on the build sheet that is on your glove box door.

Go to car-part.com and enter the info for your Tahoe, select "Radio" as the part, "UP0" as the option when it asks, and your location. This will identify scrapyards within a certain radius of your location and the prices for the radio. They show this radio as low as $25.

Thanks! I was hoping someone had done all this research and I appreciate you passing it along.

Most likely this is old stock that was refurbished years ago anticipating sales that didn't materialize. As these items keep getting older the less likely it is going to be used/sold.
