Tried posting this yesterday but it does not appear anywhere so will try again..

The rear air ceased working in my 2008 Suburban 6.0 ltr 2500 4WD because of leaks in the lines to the rear.

Cost of replacing the rear lines is parts are 900.00, labor additional. Looked for aftermarket parts and found some at 400.00 plus labor. Same company also offered a "block off kit" which block off the rear lines and make the rear air inoperable, for 59.00 plus frt. Dollars are tight right now and we do not drive the vehicle except for boat towing to the lake.

I have two questions:
Has anyone used this kit or method before, and does it make the compressor work any harder to cool the vehicle. It is very rare that more than two people are in the vehicle. Also for how long can I leave it blocked off without any problems occurring.

I plan on getting the hoses from the aftermarket store and having them installed this fall when the dollar situation is better and probably will not drive in excess of 3000 miles till then.

It won't make the compressor work any harder and it will keep the front of the vehicle cool.

 

Thanks for the reply Shark. Feel better about doing this now (block off) even if it is only for a couple of months. This confirms what several mechanics and the mfgr of the kit have said, so with no negative comments I will go ahead with the block off kit.

 

I'll add that the system will need to be completely evacuated and recharged to add the line blocks...
You cannot add the block off's without opening the system...
