rear bumper scrape - comprehensive?
While washing my truck the other day I noticed some damage to my rear bumper that I believe was caused by a car or shopping cart, it's a small scrape, but has warped the plastic. and on black is super noticable.
I don't know when it occured, but I know I didn't back into anything.
Is this something insurance takes care of? I have a $100 comprehensive deductable.
I assume it's the same as if someone would open a car door into my truck (which is why I park miles away from places)...
thanks.

Guess it would depend on how your insurance operates in your state and your standing with your ins co.
I had hit a deer a while back and my ins covered it with my comp deductible ($50) site unseen at my word
Worst case they may cover it with collision or uninsured motorist if your state has that coverage.

To answer this question it would most definitely depend on your specific policy, the insurance agency you have, and your state laws. However, I am pretty sure this would NOT fall under comprehensive insurance. Comprehensive insurance covers your vehicle for losses resulting from incidents other than collision (covers damage to your car if it is stolen; or damaged by flood, fire, or animals).
The fix the small scrape that you are talking about, it would most likely fall under collision.
I would suggest taking your truck to a body shop and getting an out-of-pocket estimate. It doesn't hurt to see what something like this would cost without involving your insurance agent. What you have to be careful of with insurance agencies is a premium increase by involving them in this kind of incident. Furthermore, you may run into trouble because no accident report (no matter how minor) was not documented or reported when it originally happened.
I am not trying to turn you away from getting it fixed, getting it done right, and getting it done cheap, but just be conscious of what your insurance agency is doing. I would hate for you to get an insurance hike for what "could be" a simple $100 fix.
I hope that helps!

New bumper can be had for about 150-250 another 100-250 to paint, in the end it should cost about 300-500 bucks for whole process to paint and install new bumper. Filing on Ins may make your monthy payments rise. With the small cost... out of pocket may be the way to go. I feel your pain though.

Traveler's says
"if it was a vehicle impact" then it's $500 collission for a $501 estimate. (yea, no)
"if it was a shoping cart, on a windy day" then $100 comprehensive.
I don't know exactly what happend in this case, but I do know what's going to happen with all future cases.

I got 2 estimates 1 from the dealership and 1 from Service King and both were near $1100 to replace the bumper.
Wow...There are plenty of OEM bumpers for a lot less than dealer prices on internet or for sale in your area. Reputable Paint and body shops and suppliers get and sale them for less. The key to any part , is if the Body shop Preps it correctly.
we got "hit" from behind by a 16 year old girl a few weeks back. Tahoe > Altima - her front bumper and hood were toast since she hit right on the hitch. Anyway there are some few good scrapes and 1 crack on the bumper.

Sabr, comp coverage should be primary in your scenario.
And while you have coverage, don't report to many claims as when you come up for renewal, the Underwriter will chk your loss history. If you have too many claims, there will probably be a dramatic increase in premium, and or you might even get dropped. And when you shop for new insurance, your history follows you no matter who the insurance company is.
It's a small loss. Better to pay out of pocket and use the insurance for when you really need it.
