rear end noise
i have 2001 sudurban 1500. had rear end problem and replaced ring gear &pinion and all bearings. ended up with a winn noise on coast and a vibration at 65mph and above. put in another ring&pinion and new pinion bearings. istill have same problem. when apart i took run out on axle stafts it was up to .030 wobble(i chucked them up in a lath) on both axles. could this be my problem or something else.

I don't know about the whining sound but I could see the vibration coming from your efforts to true up the shaft(s)... they may be perfectly round now, but may be out of balance... I guess it would depend on how much material was removed..

did this happen after the ring gear and pinion were installed? do ur new gear ratios in the rear match the front? if this is a 4wheel drive.

just to make things straight i did not turn down the axles i just used a dial indicator to check straightness. yes the problem started after the rear end came apart after the carrier bearings failed. yes i still have same gear ratios. does anyone know what is allowed run out on axles?
