Default Rear Heat...

Hey guys,my wifes Tahoe('04 5.3),she says the rear heater doesn't put out heat untill you start going,I'm thinking clogged rear heater core.I've read/heard that the Dex-cool coolant can cause clogging issues,I plan on removing the rear heater core,doing a full system flush,changing upper and lower rad hoses as well as t-stat,I have about 5 or 6 gallons of red"elc" coolant left over from doing my truck(7.3 diesel),is it ok to run red elc coolant in a 5.3?....Thoughts...thanks phil

Don't know what red elc is but I know that the problem is mixing any other antifreeze w/ Dexcool. It causes it to gel.

"elc" is Extended Life Coolant I'm guessing different manufactures have there own color schemes....but I am sure they are also chemically different for patent reasons so I would be cautious on mixing them.

when u flush the coolant system put in some dish soap....did it when i flushed mine about 2 months ago....there was so much crap that came out..just make sure u clean it a extra few times...

Thanks guys,I definatly plan on doing a very thorough flush before I add the ELC,I wasn't gonna mix it with the dexcool,I know that with some diesels you can't use an ELC coolant,I just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure whether it was compatible or not.
