Default Remote Starter Questions

I have installed a remote starter on older vehicles with no problems. Does an 02 Suburban need a bypass or anything special to install? Also does anyone recommend a specific brand?

Default RE: Remote Starter Questions

Yes and no.

The reason I said it that way is your vehicle has the Passlock 2 anti theft system. This is the yellow ( + ) and orange / black ( - ) wires in the ignition harness.
When you turn the key to start the cylinder sends a resistance value to the BCM to disable the anti theft.

Most remote start systems and installers will say ( for extra cost ) you require a by pass module. All these modules are ; a variety of resistance values that are selected for your particular vehicle to match that of your key cylinder ( previously explained ). If you were to read the value yourself then go to an electronics supply shop , get the resistance value ( use precision resistors within 1% ) and install it on the yellow wire ( if I recall ) this will work. At least this has for me on my 99 Malibu and 03 S10.
