Rought Idle (400rpm-800rpm) and Dropping Oil Pressure
2000 Suburban 5.3L 2WD
.
Have changed fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, oil, oil filter, and thermostat (fail open).
.
I bought the vehicle like this so please don't judge lol I wouldn't let it get this bad if it was me but it's mine now so I gotta figure it out 😓 It had a rebuilt title, appears to be front end, new radiator assembly.
.
The check engine is for knock sensors, which I plan on replacing along with the harnesses. And I'll be cleaning the fuel injectors since I'll have the rails off anyway.
.
E-Brake light stuck on
Tow/Hitch light stuck onABS light on
172k miles.
When I start it, the idle jumps from 400-800 and the oil pressure goes from 0-20, but right after the oil change it was at or slightly above 40. I've also lost about 1qt-1.25qts in a month (100miles). One time when I started it after shutting it off after a long trip, a plume of white smoke came out the exhaust but it stopped immediately after, haven't seen it before or since. I was thinking maybe carbon build up since it was a 2.5hr drive and I've not taken it that far before. Had it brought to a mechanic, he hooked up a snap-on scanner and he said the engine was really strong, I take that with a grain of salt.
.
I'd love to be able to answer any questions that might help me get this thing running right, please don't hesitate to ask.
.
Thank y'all for your time 😁👍
If you're going to work on your own truck, you need a scan tool to read the codes in the computer. Scan tool is more important than a socket set in modern vehicles. Failure codes help point the way to what's going on. Your dash is lit up like a Christmas tree so you need to know what codes are present.

This morning the idle got so low it shut off then displayed the battery light on dash readout on the left, but the battery was showing over 14v so 🤷♂️
Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately the code that the scanner reveals only points you in the direction but does not give you the step-by-step troubleshooting instructions available to the tech in the service department.
