Default Running Board Question - 2005 Suburban

On my new (to me) 2005 K2500 Suburban the running boards are tucked up high and out of the way. They are tucked up so close to the body panel it makes the running boards almost unusable.

These are the factory running boards. Keep in mind this is a 4WD (K2500).

I've been looking at running boards on other Suburbans of similar year models and the running boards look much more like the running boards on my 1996 Suburban C2500. These running boards appear to be a little wider and set off lower from the body rocker panel. These running boards are much more usable and provide stable footing when entering and exiting the vehicle.

What gives?

Is the K2500 running board different than the C2500 part? Is the C2500 running board the same as the C1500 part?

I've looked on several parts web sites and I 've not been able to get to the bottom of this. I'll take some pictures when I have time but my Suburbans are not readily available right now so I can't get to them to take pictures.
