I have rust colored spots that are appearing on my suburban door trim. I have used clay bar but wouldn't remove. I ordered something to spray on them that was supposed to turn purple if it was rust. Didn't turn purple. Does anyone know what this is? It started only on the top of the trim but is rapidly spreading. Help

If its happening on the trim, it could be stains or a reaction to road chemicals...
post a picture or two of it...

 

Same thing happened on my wife's 2004. Never found out what caused it and couldn't remove them. Came from Wisconsin, so guessing road chemicals had something to do w/ it.
