Our '07 Tahoe LTZ is less than a month old and the resonator on the exhaust (that "can" visible at the end of the exhaust where the tip comes out of) is rusting on the face that the exhaust tip protrudes from.

Questions:
1) Would this be something that would be covered under warranty to replace?
2) Would removing it cause the exhaust to be louder or "drone" on the highway?
3) Would removing affect low end torque (and ultimately transmission shift points)?

I'm on the fence about removing it or having it replaced under warranty, but I have a feeling the latter would just result in another rusting resonator.

Anyone else having this?

I've just noticed the same thing on my '07 LTZ today (2 weeks old). I've been shopping sport exhausts, trying to find out which gives best tq/hp, so I'm planning on replacing anyway. I think the stock exhaust is the weakest looking part on the whole rig.

As far as removing the resonator, yes it will get louder, but a big no no in CA.

 

It's perfectly legal to remove a resonator tip in the state of Calif. You just can't remove the mufflers or catalytic converters. Anything after the mufflers is fair game.

 

Normal, cheap recycled meal and the heat from the welding.
Won't get replaced by GM, they all have it.
Try so old fashioned Chrome / Metal polish

 

I painted mine with semi-flat BBQ grill paint...Blends in to the under carraige and not really visible now.

 

Now that's a great idea!

 

With the solid black LTZ, painting the thing really helped a great deal.

 

Do you have any pics of the painted exhaust? I am thinking its looks good but Id like to check before I start painting anything.

Thanks for the tip on the exhaust. Anyone know of any aftermarket systems yet. I know that Calvin asked earlier, but I wanted to put it out there again.

 

well i know that GM has 2 different systems for about $500 and well another $100 for the tip.. but i'm waiting for a corsa system cause i loved it on my 05 avalanche.. and the rust is normal.. from the weld.. i actually just noticed it on my truck while i was polishing the tip with some compound..
