Default Side mirror stains

I broke my driver-side mirror yesterday (just the glass, not the housing). It popped out, and I was able to pop the semi-shattered glass back in. I didn't notice at the time, but a greenish black fluid sprayed over the driver door upon impact. I believe it's only in the self-dimming, defrosting side mirrors.

I've tried removing this fluid today using WD-40 and Goo Gone. This loosened some of the fluid off the door, but the stains remain. I've done a bit of searching on the internet, and from what little I've found, this sounds like nasty stuff that others have had trouble removing.

Have any of you encountered this fluid before, and if so, successfully removed the stain? I'm less worried about the glass; i'll just take it on the chin to get an OEM replacement from the dealer. This stain/streaks are brutal though.

Talk to a paint guy at a body shop. They would know what to use. It may need to be wet sanded and buffed.

Default Maybe I can help

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. Went to see a movie and came back out to find that someone had came to close and had hit the mount, only the mirror was damaged though. Mirror was just hanging out by the 2 wires that plug into it and I had that nasty green stuff all down the side of the door. I took it through a carwash, no luck, took to a body shop and they tried the wetsand thing, no luck.

I went and bought Rain X Bug and Tar remover. Used about 1/4 of the 23 ounce bottle and let it stay on the Tahoe for 3-4 days. Ran it back through a car wash and 95% of the green crap was gone. Only stains that didn't come off were the bigger ones. I sprayed the bug and tar remover on those spots again and let it set for a couple more days and soap/water washed the area, bam...gone!
Woked for me, let me know if it works for you. Good luck!

Knowing what the green stuff is made of would help.
I'm sure it has to do with the heated mirrors.
I bet a little serching would produce an MSDS for it...
