Default Soon to be Tahoe owner

Hi everybody!

I am going to be getting a Tahoe soon (NBS). My bf had one before and he sold it to get my an ML430 which I now regret lol. So we are going back to a Tahoe. Just wondering what the first basic mods are when people buy one, performance and appearance. We have a basic idea of what we're doing to it since he had one before but was wondering if anybody had other ideas or tips

that's pretty wide open, not knowing your personal 'style' especially on the appearance side of things...
I'm more for functionality than appearance, so I'd start with air filter (K&N?) and possibly exhaust.. lowering a little bit can help handling and fuel efficiency if you're an on-road only type of driver (my suburban is a family hauler, I'm not an off-roader)

I meant to post pics of the last one so you can get a sense of an idea sorry but I'll post now

So far we have in mind a color matched grille with street scene speed grille insert, GEN VI Bumper with speed grille insert, painted smooth vent caps, HID & LED everything lol, and clear corner lights

Performance we were thinking of a tune but no other ideas yet

Blackbear tune. CAI aren't worth the expense and trouble for very marginal gain.

Im getting a tune but not blackbear, my bf knows someone that uses hp tuners and will do i cheap!!

also what do u mean about trouble with CAI?

I can get an AEM Brute Force for practically nothing so the expense is not the problem but is there any downsides to it?

First the stock system is by design a CAI. Some, if not all, of the aftermarket systems use a metal tube which gets hot and in turn heats the incoming air. If the CAI uses an oiled filter element, there's the risk of oil getting on the MAF and coking.

As to the tune, one lesson I've learned over the years (many times unfortunately) is that you usually get what you pay for. Also will your bf's friend redo it after the service dept does a software upgrade?

So u think a cai is actually worse??

And as far as the tune he already has the software and he has done numerous cars including my bfs previous cars but yea he tunes it after anything is modded.

Also does anybody have an idea of what preventative maintenance we should do first? We already have synthetic oil for it and tr55 plugs.. Also will do brakes if needed

No, I don't think aftermarket CAIs are worse, just not any significant improvement. Heck on my 2007, I actually put the GM Performance CAI on it. As far as I could tell, it was mostly eye candy. My Gtech Pro showed no increases. Even the mfgs test data usually show improvements in hp at the upper RPM range. Don't know about you but I don't have the engine in that regime.

From what I've learned on this forum, I would recommend that you stick w/ the AC Delco spark plugs.

As far as PM goes, I'd look at the owner's manual and do whatever is recommended for the mileage on your truck. Might run a couple of bottles of Techron thru it. One of the few "joy juices" I believe actually works.

Ok well I got the CAI AEM Brute Force Today brand new only $50 The power of being a girl lol

Is techron just added to gas tank? I've always been skeptical of that kind of stuff

Also, the plugs I read on another forum that they we're better than oem if you're looking to do some bolt on performance mods
