Default Speedometer stopped working

2003 suburban speedo abruptly stopped working. All other guages are fine. Any tips on diagnosis. Receiving unit in cluster ( have seen utube videos on replacing ) or sending unit to high not exactly sure where that is . Or advice on fixing

Just had mine fixed, local shop. Remove the bezel, that's the trim piece around it, just need thumb power. Remove 4 7mm screws, and disconnect. I had the shop add transmission temperature gauge since I tow a trailer on occasion, Mine is also a 2003. The speedometer didn't just stop, but got erratic,.

i know these years have bad stepper motors but like kevin mentioned they usually just dont stop working but more go into an erratic mode. im not sure if a cluster replacement would fix your issue or if you have another issue. im not sure how you can even test them. on my 04 imp 4 out of the 6 gauges went bad and started reading erratic but none never stopped just working. replaced the stepper motors and problem went away

If it is the stepper motor, you can replace it yourself if you can solder. I did mine in a 03 Trailblazer a few years ago. It was so easy I ended up changing all 6 since they would have gone bad anyway.

It's driver side transmission about 2/3 way back. It's easy to get too. I don't know how to test one, other than the end should be magnetic.
