Default stabiltrak and traction control problems and brake fluid level

2008 Suburburban LT...54K miles...I haven't been driving this car much lately... got a company truck now... last weekend we drove to the store and about 1 mile from home I get ... ding...ding...ding... and another 31 dings. DIC shows 'TRACTION CONTROL OFF" and "STABIL LINK OFF" and ABS icon and Stabillink icon come on on the dash...

No problems with steering, brakes or engine performance... then in a bout a minute it all went away... few minutes later, it's back. Made our trip and back home, hooked up the code reader... no codes... out for the week and back in this weekend... same thing about every 5 or ten minutes it's on then off...

Came here and did research for hours finding every possible reason and cost from 75 bucks to thousands... I tried a few of the easy checks/solutions and found no problems, broken wires, blown fuses... then buried down 5 or 6 pages in one thread was a little comment where someone said "check your brake fluid... when it gets close to the low fluid indicator sensor it can give you all these symptoms" Seems the fluid sloshes around on turns and such and gives a false low reading.... although I never got a low brake fluid light... Another weird thing... the tire pressure indicator showed no tire pressuress... So, I check and sure enough... I'm still above the "LOW mark but above the sensor barely. Topped it off and did a short trial drive...no dings, lights, icons or problems...and the tire pressure on the DIC showed the correct reading... I hate computers ! Makes me wonder how many dealer dollars changed hands chasing this problem...

suggestion..... if you get this problem..... top off your brake fluid before handing your ride and your visa to the dealer

thanks to whoever made the original find... you saved me a fortune !!!

later
John

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for the info.

BTW if your brake fluid is low, usually means your pads are really worn down or there's a leak somewhere.
