Default Steering Wheel controls

Tried to replace the evic/select switch and managed to pull out the plug from the connecting wires. They are not long enough to reach and I would like to release the steering wheel control wiring harness from its plug in connection in order to pull the connecting wires up and reconnect them to the plug, and then plug in to the switch. Can I do this without removing the steering wheel? I see that if I remove the knee bolster and the plate behind it, there is access to some wiring, but can I reach the wiring harness plug from there?
