Far as service job... the booster did have fluid in it as I saw it. He stuck a zip tie down in the vacuum hole. Whether he put it there I dont know (husband saw me watching and started with the "just sit down let them do their job Jenn" I said "I'm watching MY vehicle I can do that they wouldnt have glass here if they didnt want or expect people to watch" but I got tired of him bitching so I sat down). I was able to see them messing around that general area but due to height of vehicle I couldn't see exact what they're doing.
I do know my wheel sensors aren't reading pressure either. *angry*

 

You've never had the "notorious issue of fluid leaking from MC into the booster" as claimed by the shop guy? NEVER ever? That's interesting.....

 

We got our 2005 Yukon in 2010; all the tire pressure senders were bad then, and still are. At least then (2005) - first year they were required, because of the Ford Explorer rollover stuff, these were really not the best engineering. So I monitor the pressure the old fashioned way, like I do on my other 5 vehicles that are pre-2005.

 

Ahh ok. I'm gonna try one time to get the system to read them. If I cant then to heck with it.
I'm still trying to figure ANOTHER quirk out now...
Rear heat & air vents in the ceiling. They used to blow air as controlled via front panel or aux. Now they only have air blow if aux is turned on. I've tried all sorts of settings, changes, etc. All that's been done is aux turned on/off, no other changes. Rear air blows great speed with aux blower settings so I know it's not the blower, the air is cold on AC and hot on heat so blend door is good.... I'm stumped.

 

The batteries in the TPMS sensors are only good for about seven or eight years. Did the piece of wire and bracket that was in the picture look like it it's spent a lifetime underneath the vehicle?

 

The first thing to do is to stop any payments to this garage made via check, credit card, or any other payment method. At a minimum, that will drive them to a negotiations arbitration for the money they claim is due.

Do not, repeat DO NOT accept a recalculated invoice.

You have a picture of what was probably making noise. Secure that evidence.

What you are looking at is some kind of tire kick-up that threw that device into the area where it could scrub on whatever it is making contact with. That is the noise that alerted you to a problem.

 

Jennifer, have you ever seen a turkey baster? I have. You can fill them with fluid, and then shoot the fluid like a squirt gun where-ever a turkey in nearby. In this case, I think the pseudo-techs saw the turkey on the other side of the glass and shot the booster full of brake fluid when you couldn't see them, and then politely escorted you back to your vehicle to show you what they had "discovered.". Now they want their turkey feathers.

 

Maybe some better advice.

Take the vehicle to a real garage, and pay them to remove the weird object, and inspect the other work to see if it was even done. Document and take pictures.

 

I am very surprised that after they first looked at your car over they didn't give you a price estimate BEFORE doing the work. Just don't understand that unless I missed it in reading. I had a good shop, owner sold it but the new owner kept the same shop name. I hoped the same employees would be there, not so. When I was asked "Do you want to fix the problem" rather than explaining the problem I said No. Glad I went somewhere else or it may have turned out like your bad experience. Tkx. *BW*

 

After looking it over, which includes pulling the wheels with a brake issue (most shops will do that for free), the shop should've provided you with a FIRM QUOTATION in writing, not an estimate. You also had the right to get another opinion, somewhere else.

Estimate is just guessing, and giving worst case scenario, and that's not the way to diagnose and repair.

In my own personal experience, Cusser's sister, Mrs. Cusser, and Cusser's mom ALL were attempted victims of auto repair scams; had I not been consulted, ALL THREE would've fallen prey. I can elaborate but that would be somewhat off-topic.
