Default Stuck to the ground! ;-)

Hello,
I have a 1997 4x4 Tahoe. - 5.7 The other day when I drove it, it came to a complete slow stop on it's own. When I tried to force it to move, I went about 30 feet and the brakes started to smoke along with that wonderful 'burnt brake' smell.

All 4 wheels seem to be locked up. If I let it sit overnight, they release, but when I try to drive it they lock up again. It happens slowly, it's not a sudden neck jerking stop. I took out the ABS fuse ... didn't help. ANYONE have any ideas as to what this might be?

Thank you.

Well... it wouldn't be the calipers if there's only disc brakes on the front... right?
And I believe that all 4 wheels are locking up at the same time, drums in the back, disc in front.

Thank you 4 ur comment.

Signed.... Confused....

Well, that crossed my mind also, but when it's moving everything shifts and sounds fine.
And as I said, when I try to drive it smoke comes pouring out of the wheels and it stinks
bad of burning brakes.

Any other ideas?? I'm open to them all.... really need my vehicle bad!! ;-(

Thx again!!

Maybe your drums are adjusted out too far...another possibility is that the park brake cable is in a bind.

Thx 4 the suggestion. The parking brake works fine. And I doubt it's in a bind because I can drive the truck
several bloks sometimes B4 the brakes lock up. ????

could very well be that 1 wheel is seized.....have you jacked it up to see if it is all 4 or if its just 1?

Sounds like something in the brake lines, calipers, wheel cylinders, or master cylinder is acting like a check valve and not allowing the pressure to release once the brakes are applied. Don't have a clue as to what that could be.

Edit: Just remembered having a similar problem only on one wheel and it was caused by a brake hose that was collapsing on the inside and wouldn't release the pressure on that caliper. It's a stretch to think that could happen on all four corners at the same time but something to look at.
