Default Suburban 2004 AWD Transfer Case NR4 BW4482

I purchased a 2004 Suburban 4WD hi all the time aka AWD model with the BW4482 NR4 Transfer case "so I thought". At the time of purchase the 4X4 light was blinking when pressed and 4x4 would not engage. Seller told me it was nothing serious. I figured easy fix probably a bad ground or bad actuator or something along those lines. My vision for this vehicle is light overlanding, so I spent about $2500 on tires leveling kit shocks coils fuel filter tune up etc etc. When I finally came around to working on 4x4 issue, I could not figure out what the F was wrong with it. So I decided to take it to a local 4x4 shop. They diagnosed it for 1 week and finally told me that the transfer case that is on the vehicle is for a Silverado and the control module could not communicate with it. My questio is, is it worth repairing a shop is out of my budget right now. Can I do it my self with basic tools? Will I run into other issues because of the wrong transfer case someone installed? I purchased the vehicle for $3800 and already invested $2500...

Yeah it shoud be an BW4482 transfer case. Someone might have put an NV246 in there which wont work with an AWD.unit. You need to find what model it really is.
