Suburban 2500 towing capacity
Could someone please clarify what the actual towing capacity on a 2000-2006 Suburban 2500 4x4 is. I have read anywhere from 7900lbs max to 12000 lbs max. Some sites say engine/tranny combo doesn't matter, some sites say 6.0L is less than the 8.1L. Can someone please shed some light on this for me please. I will be towing a 10,000 lb travel trailer with a hitch weight of 1,000 lbs....and yes, I do have a weight distribution hitch with sway bar.

You should be fine. Keep an eye on your transmission temps, and put in a larger cooler if it gets warm. Air bags might help stabilize the rear a little for you as well.
I have a co-worker that has pulled a 28' toy hauler with his '02 for several years with no problems.
The most I pull with my 2500 ('05) is my rock crawler. It's 6000# including gear and trailer. Has no trouble. The 5000# boat is even better.

The 8100 V8 engines in the 2500 Suburban for 2006 are able to tow a maximum of 12,000 pounds. The 6000 V8 engine can tow a maximum of 9,900 pounds in the same configuration. I hope this helps to answer your question.

Thanks for all of the info. After doing some research I have decided to go with a Duramax Crew 4x4. It's a pretty heavy load and would feel more comfortable with a few thousand pounds towing capacity left over.
