Default Suburban Instruments Shutdown

On our 2003 Suburban, we noticed some months ago that the fuel gauge was not working properly---might read over full or anywhere on the gauge and not change as we drove or when we refueled. A few days later, it began working again and soon after it again failed. After several such episodes, it has not functioned in about 6 months (fortunately, the trip range computer still works indicating, to me, that the problem is not in the tank end). About a month ago, the speedometer similarly stopped working---might read anywhere from 30 to 70 mph and not respond to changes in speed. Again, the problem began as intermitant and then became permanent. Next, the tachometer followed the same pattern. So, today, we have no fuel, speed, or engine speed information.
Dealer can only suggest replacing the whole dash for $$$. Any suggestions or help available from anyone? Is it possible there is a simple fix, like reconnecting a ground? Any specific part to replace?

There was a recall on the instrument clusters from 2003 to 2006. the stepper motors for the gauges would go bad. One at a time, but all would follow eventually. It is probably too late for you to take advantage of the recall. You can buy the stepper motors and install 6 by yourself if you can solder. I bought them on Ebay for around $20 and did it myself on my Trailblazer.

Thank you for that information. We purchased the car new so I am surprised we did not receive a recall notice. If you, by chance, have a recall number or something I shall speak with my dealer. If not, I have to figure out how to replace these stepper motors---do you know how many there are?

AGain, thank you for helping.
