Talking Suburban Question/Opinion

Hey guys great forum here, I am thinking of buying a 2001-2004 chevy suburban or yukon xl with the 5.3l 4x4 with high mileage but looking for it to have a well maintained body, i have seen them run about 6 or 7 grand wich is well in my price range, my question would be is buying one and having the engine rebuilt worth it since some of the mileage ive seen is around 170k to 220k im sure the engine would need some work. I would have the engine rebuilt by a proffesional shop since im not to good mechanically and just want to use this truck as sunday or vacation car and keep it well maintained. If anybody can give me any opinions weather this would be worth it or seem like a good idea i would appreciate it. Thanks for your help and sorry for the long post!

Welcome to the forum
I agree looking for a decent shape body is a good idea too, as for rebuilding, the engine is likely to be in good shape its the transmissions that tend to need work.
I'd go with the philosophy of if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you have the money set aside for the rebuild, just keep it till you need it and get the miles you can out of what you buy...

Yea the motor will go to 330K with due care. The transmission will need a do over some time but with care can do 170K. But in any event, these trucks are popular so the parts and service arent hard to complete.

Trans rebuild $1500. With 4x4 maybe $1800.

Engine rebuild $2200, with customizations $4000

Reman'd engine? Depends on what you get. But $2000 to whatever.
