Suburban shuts down when turning
Wondering if anyone has ever heard of this? I have an '03 Suburban 1500/5.3 with 174K. Recently when I turn sharply at low speeds (for instance, swinging into a parking spot), the truck has a tendency to shut off completely. It's almost instant. From straight I begin to turn hard, feel the power steering give out, and suddenly the truck is off. Doesn't happen frequently, but maybe a half dozen times in the past 2 months. It has happened turning both directions. I have no steering issues at speed or under any other conditions. Any ideas? Bad power steering pump? Electrical short somewhere? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

can you do it sitting still? if you are in park and do a hard left / right / full tilt will it stall?
that would confirm or assist the power steering theory.
I would imagine that if the pump were to go, and lock, that the belt would start making some noise and might look chewed up...
