Default Sunroof exploded

I was driving down the highway at night at 10:50 and all of a sudden heard like a gunshoot and glass came down on me and my family( wife, baby, cousin and his son) it had us so shook that I had to pull over and call the police, granted I worked for the sheriff's department for two years so I tell them please come out so I can make a report. Because if it was someone drop something or shooting then we could be in danger. So they came out and they like what drop on the truck and we like a nothing come in but glass. So there was no evidence of anything falling. What was the reason for the sunroof glass breaking like that?

I've never had a sunroof explode but I've had a driver side windows do so in another vehicle of mine.

I was driving down the road and I hear a pop and the window was in a million pieces but still intact. I called in a police report but I think the problem was due to a broken lift place that's attached to the windows itself inside the door. I think I rolled up the window a little too tight causing it to break while riding on a semi-rough road.

Tempered glass is highly stressed and sometimes a small unnoticed flaw can trigger its destruction. I had a shower door turn into a pile of pea sized glass on the floor. No one was around when it happened.
